New stand

Been looking for something foldable and lightweight that gives a bit of height to the Ampthill Country Market Stall, and finally bought this.

It started orange/brown and I painted it an 'Elderflower' colour as had some of that already.

Have added a couple of hooks now to the sides, so the bags on the side sit neatly.  Still in the experimental stage....bags are also on the back...

Bus pass holders

So after a lot of messing about with a couple of prototypes, I managed to come up with a plan for bus pass holders....

One has wadding and the other interfacing - bit sure which I prefer.

Seen a lot of these around the internet, so after a lot of searching around - I combined a couple of patterns - I couldn't cope with a more curled trunk...but liked the idea of putting the ears into a seam, making them nice and neat.

Peg Bags

I have finally worked out how to make these fully lined, but much easier.

I watched a Debbie Shore video - and it planted a few seeds how I can do them so much better!

I even lined the cherries with cherries

Nail file covers

I saw these glass nail files that looked so attractive, so went to work and made them some covers.

Thought it would be perfect to add in some matching items, tissues and glasses case....what do you think?

Can do some instructions on how I made them....

last of the jeans catch up

These first 2 were made for kids jeans and so are only small bags - but how cute are they, they were nice colour denim too:

These had were the last of a pair that I did early last year, and this one was finished at the end of the summer!

Jeans bag - a few more as usual

Here are a few bags that I have made out of jeans over the last week, I have 3 more to finish, they are all cut out and ready to go, just need to make some flowers for them before sewing them up!

And this a little one that i made using all the scraps of the the first pair of jeans that I made into a bag - and was on a bit of a learning as you can so I joined up lots of scraps, but it is very cute and seems to work - what do you think?

Big jeans bag

These jeans were too small to cut in half so thought I would make one big bag.  thought the pockets were a bit boring on such a large bag to made a new flap as well. Used a fancy stitch on the machine...just because.

The zip left in place caused me problems as I couldn't sew anything in the back centre - so added two closures.

I know I didn't need any fabrics, but I like to visit a relatively new shop that is in Rose Green when I visit my parents in Bognor Regis.  It is only small but has a good selection of bits and bobs, you can see that I also bought a thimble and some scissors.

She has a good stock of the Makower and Tilda fabrics, and I really couldn't decide what I wanted so just bought a selection of 'craft' cottons which I thought were just as nice.

She has a facebook page: and worth a visit if you are in the area.

Across the road there is Rose Green Centre for Art and Craft that offer a selection of courses, and has paintings and other crafts for sale:

Drawstring glasses cases

Fancied trying a different style - so came up with this plan, think they maybe slightly too long so have now revised the pattern, the button 'stop' seems to be effective - was chuffed with that idea.

Edit - have now made them shorter and they are perfect for my sunglasses.

Gathered Flowers

Made these flowers, by just gathering up a length of fabric and adding a 'puff ball' in the middle.

I was looking for something different to add to a bag, and these were different to make, and didn't take that long, I did a sewing machine stitch along the edge for the gathering.

So soon sewn, just wrapped them around a sewed as I went.  The puff ball looked better than a button I thought.

Drawstring bags

I was looking for something different to make this week, and wandered around the internet for inspiration.  I stumbled across something known as an origami bag, or I think maybe lotus flower are similar, with 4 'petals'.  You start with 2 pieces of fabric 17 inches square, and basically seam all the way around (qtr inch is good). Then fold up the

There seems to be various different ways to finish the bags, you can overlap the two points by a lot or a little, and you end up with a smaller bag but 'pockets' on the outside.

I played about and chose an in between amount - Debbie Shore has a video where she does 1.5 inches - I went for a bit more.

I then additionally sewed the front 'pockets' with a line of stitching from point on one side to the other, and hand stitched a little way along once done, so you can pop something in there now.

I thought my fabric was not that 'thick' but once all sewn together I realised that the 'close' wasn't super tight, but think that is fine.

So I then moved onto a drawstring bags and made the one on the right with a flower.

Little gadgets and notions - Bias binding

Another of my favourite sellers on Ebay is rossagerose I am often buying bias binding from there, and tend to look out for the polycotton as it does seem to have a softer feel and not so openly woven, but that is personal preference.

The pink in these tissue pouches are from there - I have 20 metres so will last me a long time...but am getting through it, and have shared with friends and the forum too, sorry picture could be a little better!

Little gadgets and notions - Clips and Zips

I thought I would share some of the little things that I have bought over the past year that have helped me on my 'sewing  journey', by searching the internet for various things, you don't have to pay loads of money.

The first thing I am going to start with is these little clips, these ones are unbranded and I have compared them with the branded ones and cannot tell the difference, these are loads cheaper and you get a lot - and I can assure you you can never have too many if you have a few projects on the go!

and since then have bought again from the same seller as I have shared some with friends.

I only paid £2.35 for 50 search in amazon for "craft clips quilt" or something like and you can see a lot of sellers out there, they may take a week or 2 to come, my last order was in December and quality was the same.

I love paying with zips - I don't always get it right, but buy a selection of zips and happy to play about with them.  Tend to search around ebay and see what is out there, try searching for zipper as well as zip, using words like 'lot' in there, or '30' or '50' you should be able to get some for around £3.00 around 10p a zip or less, last purchase was from a UK seller Seller-Vision

I recently bought some pretty pink ones here try this search in their shop

Teeny bags

Have been having great fun making these little bags, saw several ideas around the internet, checkout my pinterest board for some of the ideas I spotted.

Pinterest sewing ideas

All the seams are enclosed, i am never keen on a finished bag that has raw seams showing even if they are zig zagged.

Tidy up

So up and until now I have had all my fabrics in clear plastic boxes, but have been bending down a lot, and also the ones I want are always at the now I have moved some of the card out of these trays and ta da..have my fabrics (well a lot of them) - nice and easy to choose....

Saturday, March 11, 2017

So I have been inspired by YouTube videos (and the Sewing quarter shopping channel!) and had a little go at patchwork.

Used up lots of the scraps that I had in a bag, and came up with this little purse...Just made 2 strips - size was determined by the scraps, and piece them together, decided on the dark blue as I have a limited range of plain colours and kind of thought I needed it.

Will have to take a pic of the back!

Bean bag stands

Don't forget the craft forum is always available for crafty chat, or any chat really.

I did a load of these a year ago...have now moved on as did get a bit fed up with all of the little polystyrene beads...but love mine and were great gifts - nice and light and perfect for sitting in bed, lounging on settee etc!

You can place your tablet or book at many different positions, and much prefer this style to the ones with the fixed cushions bit at the front.

I cut piece of fabric 22 inches by 15 inches so finished size 10.5 by 14 approx, and also a little piece of ribbon so that they can be hung up!

Just fold on half so it is 11 by 15, and then stitch along 2 sides.  Leave a gap along the underneath towards the top (for turning and then for filling), this was nice and neat as it will be on the back of the 'stand', and add the ribbon loop on shorter side.

So to summarise - sew short side with ribbon at beginning, turned did about an inch, left gap, then continued on long side.

Then you flatten out the other end so that the seam is now meeting the middle of the fabric and sew - turn inside out.  Was super quick...filling was another matter!  tried a few methods and ended up with a big cardboard box and made a funnel with card.  Used a glass jar to scoop out beads as thought it might be less static than plastic...still got static.  So sew lots and then fill lots and then get cleaner out!

I filled them with poly beads leaving about 3 inches free at the top, too full and you can’t place the tablet on them in many positions, so peg it and test it.

Vintage and lace

I have collected a selection of fabrics with a 'vintage' feel so thought I would make some mix and match accessories, and break out the oodles of lace that I keep buying but never seem to get around to use. I just love cotton lace so when I see it at a good price can never resist!

So have a selection of glasses cases, tissue pouches and other zipped bags.

Covered Notepad

I got some lovely hardback notebooks, and decided to give it a go and cover them,

Subsequent makes have included a ribbon page marker -the pen holder - I undid it all and added it, as thought it really needed it!

Very first one decided not to pad it, but now like them with the addition of wadding, gives it a more luxurious feel.
