Winners have been announced

I just can't believe how many people completed all 21 challenges - just truly amazing. Go and check out the gallery to see all of their creations - you really will be impressed how much was achieved over one week. The full list of winners is here. Prizes will be sent to everyone - and thank you everyone for joining in.

Have you ever made a decision and then regretted it! - boy do I regret buying 2 freezers neither of which are frost free! grrrr as this week Owen and I are off to Mum's I have not bought much shopping so decided last night that it was the ideal time to do one of the freezers....this morning I am now going to do the other.

As everyone seemed to be enjoying the challenges I have launched a rubber stamped one and I will let it run for 2 weeks...a bit similar to the last one - but hopefully still a challenge. It is to make more than one fold in your can be loads of folds to make a zig zag card - or just where your imagination takes you. I will draw a lucky winner at the end of the challenge and send some rubber stamps....

Don't forget there is still time to enter the worsearch competition...and if the weather is anything like it is here - you might like something to do for half an hour today!

Farmers Market

Today it was Ampthill Farmers Market - it gets quieter and quieter each month - such a shame that the Town Council or even the District Council do not support it, and give it a decent position in town.

I did manage to sell 9 cards - although two of these were not very good really, and surprisingly chilly too. The cakes did go well though so good for the other ladies.

I made a few cards this afternoon - but have not taken any piccies yet. This is a clip frame that I tarted up the other day and Sue used it for the Big Challenge, I bought some more little clip frames - and plan to do them in a similar style - no idea if they will be popular.

Oh Dear

How easily led am I am sitting at my PC - with loads of things planned for the day - including the dreaded housework, tax return work (way behind on this), card making - so much to do...the phone rings 11.20am. My friend Jane....'Hello, what are you doing? Do you fancy lunch as it is such a lovely day?' immediate answer is 'yes' what am I like!

So I met her at Poplars Nursery, Toddington. We had a nice relaxing lunch, wandered around the garden centre. And then popped into Craftability...I managed to send £10 on paper and some of those lovely little stamps that everyone has been talking about at £1.49. I already had two that H had sent to me....and now have another 5 to join them! I reckon that is it for me - some of the other words didn't quite appeal.

So now all I need to do is use them.

I also picked up a pack of paper that Polly has donated for a prize or two 'Polly Doodles'...they are fab - have you seen them? After the challenge has finished I will start offering some new prizes I have for the challenges.

I stood on the market to do my 'shift' on the Country Market stall - sales were not so hot - but never mind it was a glorious day, and bumped into people not seen for ages as always.

I treated myself to a lovely pendant from the florist 'Flowers with Flair' will have to take a photo of it at the weekend.

Minor trauma with Owen - he hurt his hand yesterday and arrived home with the same sad face he went out of the door with this we had a trip to the doctors. Great that they could fit us in and the Doctor was very sympathetic - far more than I was....she said he had strained it and needs to rest it! So I treated him to some Ibuprofen and some of that micropore tape as a special treat.....I think he is a little less sad now he know it is not broken! Unfortunately I thought repititive games like ps or pc stuff were not ideal so he watched a DVD! I had suggested he read a book!

I thought I would add the cards that I did for the BIG challenge - make three cards with the theme 'Romance' one with the word 'cherish' and one with the word 'love. The first is a stamp Sue lent me, the other two are just from punches and using the PC.

I popped in the library yesterday too and managed to get the Chocolate Lovers Club - sohave started reading that too!

The BIG Challenge continues

Well I have been at work for two days and the BIG challenge continues, what a great team working on the forum and so fabby to see so many joining in. I just can't believe the creations and the imagination gone into lots of them - so much inspiration. So talented.

Today Sue launched a sewing challenge and she asked me to make a card as an example - well this was probably the hardest card I made in a long time! I made the mistake of using metallic thread which is not easy to sew - I shanlt be doing it again in a hurry. I am sure I could have used breads tee hee. I stamped each of the tags with some clear stamps by Technique Tuesday - they were good value and came with some little 'accents' to add to the words as you can see.

Carole Matthews

Tonight I went along to the Ampthill library to listen to author Carole Matthews chat about her new book The Chocolate Lovers Club. Rachel (Firefly) from the Ampthill forum very kindly gave me a ticket - and what a good evening it was. Carole is a lovely lady - she read excerpts from her book, and also told us all the things she had learnt about chocolate in the name of research. Very amusing speaker.

She also gave us an insight into how she became an author - she started out as a secretary and then an aromatherapist. Submitted an short story for a competition and won. She invested her winnings into a course on wriing - wow how in awe am I of someone like that. A very inspiring story. She lives locally in MK.

Ampthill library did a fabby spread too - and they provided a chocolate fountain, marshmallows, strawberries, chocolate well as tea and coffee etc. there was also a free raffle - but I didn't win :( - Rachel did!

Sarah was also there and she is the one that will be starting a book club - which I am looking forward to....most of the other members of the club were there too. So looking forward to our first meet in two weeks.

I bought one of Carole's books and she kindly signed it so that I can sell it on Ebay for a £1 or two more tee hee. Apparently she based it on her cousins wedding!

All in all a good evening.

The BIG challenge still continues on the forum - and there is still plenty of time to catch up and join in. Everyone seems to be having a great time making things.....

The florist

There is a new florist that has opened in Ampthil, Flowers with Flair. I popped in there the other day and she said she would do some of my cards on sale or return. As it was in town thought I would give it a go, I can pop in there most weeks. Mind you when I returned she had loads more cards than when I went in there 2 weeks ago, so not sure if they will be popular or not! So she has taken 18 and the basket that I took them only time will tell.

She has some nice gift stuff in there that she has sourced and is looking for local suppliers of anything handmade like that. Lovely jewellery that I was tempted with - although she is buying that in from Cornwall, so not very local!
So here is a catch up of some cards that I have made....

This one is the first attempt at shadow stamping - I will have another go at this Sheila Manic Stamper has given me some tips on how to make my own shodow stamp, as I fancied one a little bigger.

I still love the little black dress - and is great for girlie cards.

Well in case you had not noticed there is a BIG CHALLENGE over on the forum and it is lasting all WEEK...I have had a play - with some of the challenges and will have a go at some more later. I have been busy keeping the gallery tidy so that we can work out the scores easily - Sue has done all the work co-ordinating this and it is proving to be a BIG success.

Crunchy Jumbles

I sat and wrapped my cards I had made over the last week while watching the Apprentice last night, and I made 35 - now I want to make some more ....but have got a block - I need some inspiration.

Well another blog featuring baking - one day I might get myself organised and start baking for the Country Markets...need to go on a food hygeine course first.

So today I have made some cookies - you get loads out of this...and they must be fairly light as they are full of rice krispies!

Crunchy Jumbles
115g 4oz Butter or Marg
225g 8oz sugar
1 egg
1tsp vanilla essence
175g 6oz plain flour
1/2 tspn bicarb of soda
115g 4oz of crisped rice (probably 3 oz would do)
100g 4oz choc chips

beat fat and sugar together, add the egg. Then fold in the sifted flour and bicarb...lastly add the cereal and choc chips..until mixed in

drop spoonfuls of the dough onto baking sheets - we made 25 the recipe says 36 so I guess it depends how big you want them

Cook 180c 350f Gas 4 for 12 - 15 minutes....use a spatula to transfer to a cooling rack...lovely - tested by Owen and they are good!

SO are you ready for the BIG challenge? Sue has been busy organising us all and it is looking fab...there are prizes up fo grabs and it is on for a WHOLE week this all starts on Friday....SO DON'T FORGET TO VISIT THE FORUM!

I have had a lot of entries for the wordsearch - glad to see that you are all enjoying it - I will keep it up as a regular thing...still loads of time to enter if you have not had the grab yourself a cup of coffee and you maybe winning a crafty prize....

Once the BIG challenge is over I will do a Rubber Stamp challenge - if anyone fancies hosting a challenge - that would be great - make a change from my style. I have some nice freebies to give away as well.....

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Well I have no idea where the time went today. I decided to email all of those registered with the guest book and yesterday everyone on the forum....just to let them know about the BIG challenge.....somehow after deleting retunred emails etc from lists the time just went!

I did make some cookies - which I shall put on the blog I have added some simple cards I made using QK shapes - I do seem to forget I have it at times, maybe I will try felt next! Do you sometimes feel you need to make amazing cards when in fact you don't need to? Maybe it is just me....anyway had a fab time making a whole selection like this!

Sunday - rainy Sunday

Well it has rained pretty much the whole day and now at last the sun has come out! So as it was an 'in' day - I have taken the opportunity to make some more cards....I have quite a little pile now that need wrapping up. I will take some photos when the sun comes out. I made this one the other day using the new ribbon in the shop - it seemed to suit the theme very well. it was obviously a hit - as it has been sold already!

Sorry have been a bit of a bad blogger - but nothing much to report really....BUT I have launched a wordsearch competition - here are the details, I hope you like the prize.

Thursday, May 10, 2007

Forgot to mention I went out for a coffee yesterday morning and met Janice in Poplars Nursery at Toddington. We had a great chat, a coffee and a sticky bun, and then had a wander around Craftability. Vanessa has got loads of new papers in - I mean loads I really didn't need any more stuff but did find myself drawn to a little paper pack by Dovecraft, that should be ideal for some 'men' cards.

Rhubarb Cake

Last Wednesday I went out for lunch at the Old Tea Shoppe in Ampthill with my friend Vicky, we had a lovely lunch - sandwiches made to order just how you like them with out butter, less mayonnaise etc. Then we followed it with a generous portion of homemade rhubarb cake which was delicious...the weather was a lot different to this week a lovely sunny walk into town....anyway the lady in the shop said she had based it on a victoria sponge recipe, so thought I would give it a go. However, I decided to base it on my Grandad's fruit cake recipe as I knew it would 'hold fruit'.

here is the recipe:

Rhubarb Cake:
6oz Margerine/butter
6oz Sugar
2 Eggs
7oz Self raising flour
7oz rhubarb (I would probably add a bit more as it did cook down) I chucked in some sultanas as well!

Cream the margerine and sugar together, add the eggs. Fold in the flour and some of the fruit. I just cut the rhubarb into inch(ish)long pieces, added some to the mix. Then put the mix into an 8 inch tin and put the rest of the fruit evenly around the top and pushed it down slightly. I sprinkled brown sugar on the top.

Cook for 1 hour 10 mins gas 4 180c

I would love to know if you have a go at this or a similar recipe with rhubarb, I saw a recipe in a book and you had to soak the rhubarb in orange juice and brown sugar for an hour....but I couldn't be bothered to wait that long.

Well I have caught another cold - grrr - I don't seem to suffer much with colds these days and now I have had two in 6 weeks.

Sales on the market were not that good - only sold 3 - but some weeks I sell none - so I suppose it could be classed as good!

Coventry Car Museum

We went to Coventry Car Museum yesterday. Have to say we were not too sure if it would be any good - as even after visiting the web site we were not quite sure what to expect.

It didn't take long to get there, we parked in a public car park opposite that was 50p fr all day on Sunday and Bank Holidays...and the museum was free as it is a natioanl museum. We sat outside eating sandwiches watching the cars arrive from the Hants & Berks car club from a rally they had organised. There were loads of interesting and not so interesting cars turning up whilst we ate our lunch. I love this Sunbeam - something I always fancied.

The Landmarques Exhibition is excellent and takes you through the history of the Coventry car industry - Owen listened to it all.

They had a lot of Triumphs there as thet were made in Coventry and this Triumph Spitfire is the same model as the one I owned when I was in my 20's, so I had to take a picture of it....mine was a G reg...and not in such good condition - but I did love it!
Obviously the exhibits are mainly focussing on the Coventry Car industry and the British industry - so there are not many (in fact not sure if there were any) foreign exhibits. They had some interesting ones including the DeLorean, Aston Martin and Jaguars. Owen fancied this Aston Martin - as he had not seen any Porsche, Ferrari or Bugatti
..and this DeLorean
I thought this car was really cute - but can't remember what it was...!

Finally Owen put a penny through a special machine and it came out like this - it cost 50p plus the penny - but he was very pleased!

Another Bank Holiday

Isn't it great this time of the year with all these lovely days off! We all did some work in the garden today, firstly by painting the back fence....we used the spray thingy as in the advert - but I did not get a fit of the giggles whilst doing it! Nevertheless it looks much better and now matches all the other fences.

I made a card for Diane - one of the team - she is retiring at the end of the month so thought that this was ideal. It fits with the rubber stamped challenge too.

Well as some of you may know I ordered some compost bins a few weeks ago and they arrived this week - I have no idea if it will be successful - but thought I should make the effort and be environmentally friendly. So I had to prise them away from Owen as he keeps getting inside and pretending to be a Dalek.....and we have now sited them in the garden. I also got a special little caddy to put the peelings etc in, and so we have been busy filling that up now.
I will return to the garden on Monday and do some weeding and should start filling the first one up soon. Although with the size of our lawn I guess we can put all the clippings in, will have to see.

I have just added a couple of photos of the newly painted fence and the vegetable patch as we have been talking veggies on the forum

And have made a few cards today - this was one of them!

Need to make cards

But have not made many. As usual the week has flown by and I just don't know where the time has gone. I sold 5 cards at work on Tuesday which was quite exciting for me! So a total of 32 cards have left the baskets this week so I really do need to make cards....but somehow I have nnot really done much. I did sit at cricket training on Monday with Owen and wrapped up all the cards I had made so have added a few more. Also did make some for the rubber stamped challenge.

have you seen Sues latest challenge - bring on the blooms - see the forum for the latest.

Mel - I spent over £50 at LB Crafts the most I have ever spent in one go! These were two of that stamps I bought! I am sure I have loads more to tell - but have to get on.....will be bck soon - have a great bank holiday weekend.
